The sudden passing of my husband in August last year came as an awful shock to me and my family.
Myself, my two children, my grandchildren and our extended family were devastated.
I let the school where I work as a cleaner know what had happened and left it at that.
Without me knowing, one of my beautiful colleagues asked the school staff community if anyone would like to help with me, and set up a Gather My Crew network.
She asked people to cook, shop, and a number of other tasks.
When bags of groceries and cooked food started to appear at my door, I was so overwhelmed that my little school community would come together to help us in a meaningful way.
The fact that I didn’t have to cook or get groceries was awesome.
This outpouring of love lasted for 4 weeks.
In those 4 weeks a big burden was lifted off me, as I didn’t have to worry about feeding myself or my family.
Some crew also donated money, which helped us enormously.
I feel I don’t have adequate words to describe just how much Gather My Crew helped us in the most difficult time.
I would remind everyone that the little things that you can do when people are hurting, help so, so much.
