Not sure what to ask for? Here’s where to start.

When you’re in the thick of a tough time, the mental load is already enormous. Being asked to also identify, articulate, and delegate your needs on the spot can feel impossible. And yet that’s exactly what happens when someone says, “let me know how I can help!”

Here at Gather My Crew, we understand that overwhelm can often lead to people not getting the help and support they need.

So, if you’re thinking “I don’t even know what help I need right now”, here’s a starting point. These are the ten most common things people ask for through the Gather My Crew app. Have a read and see what jumps out. Anything that would take even a small weight off your shoulders is worth asking for.

  1. Cook dinner
  2. Transport to an appointment
  3. Take the kids to school
  4. Do the laundry
  5. Drop off groceries
  6. Walk the dog
  7. Help with some light housework
  8. Give the carer a break
  9. Arrange a playdate
  10. Come for a visit

Think about what keeps your household running on a normal week and notice where the gaps are appearing. That’s where to start. And you don’t have to limit yourself to this list, it’s just here to help you consider what might be useful.

Let the app do the organising for you

The free Gather My Crew app was built for exactly this moment. You literally just list the help you need and if you’re not sure where to start, we have prompts to guide you. Then you invite your crew and they can see everything in one place and simply accept the tasks that work for them. No group chats, no repeating yourself, no keeping track of who said they’d do what.

As your situation changes, you can update your list. Different week, different needs… the app moves with you.

And if setting it up feels like too much right now, ask someone you trust to do it for you. Handing your phone to a friend and saying, “can you sort this?” is a completely valid first ask.
