Community group is not the backup plan. We are the plan.

When someone in your community group is facing illness, crisis, or caring for a loved one, it’s easy to assume they must be getting help somewhere else.

Government services and formal supports can help in some situations, but they rarely cover everything. Even when support exists, it usually addresses only a small part of what people actually need day to day.

Many members going through tough times are carrying far more on their own than we realise.

There isn’t a hidden team of professionals waiting in the wings. There isn’t a backup plan kicking in. Most of the time, there’s just us.

Community members. Book club friends. Sewing circles. Rotary members. Dog walking groups. Running crews.

If we don’t step in, the load stays heavy and lonely. But when people chip in, even in small ways, the weight of care is shared.

Here are just some of the small ways you can make a big difference for a community group member doing it tough.

  • Offer lifts to and from group meetups.
  • Drop off meals so they have one less thing to think about.
  • If they can’t make it for a while, keep them in the loop so they still feel part of things.
  • Help with household tasks. The everyday jobs that pile up when life gets hard.

Small acts add up to something powerful. No member left unsupported. No one left carrying it all.

We’re not the back up. We are the plan.

Let’s do this. ⭐
